Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services of Northern Indiana is a program of REAL Services Inc., dedicated to family support, education, advocacy, and raising community awareness of Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementia. They offer one-on-one counseling, support groups, educational workshops, and offer an online hotline for individuals with dementia and their families.

They offer a client and family-centered approach to pediatric therapy, utilizing proven, evidence-based intervention methods. The pediatric therapy services include: occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech terapy, feeding therapy, nutrition therapy, First Steps, developmental therapy, social skills groups and teletherapy.

This group meets at Immanuel Lutheran Church around Thanksgiving. They focus on surviving the holidays.

KidWorks Social Skills Groups | Valparaiso

Kidworks offers 2 social skills groups geared toward ages 5-8 yrs and 9-12 yrs. They incorporate social activities, games, science, play, and crafts while building friendships along the way! Social skills and lesson plans are modified based on the needs of the children in the group. The cost is $72 a month for 4 sessions.

Fair Haven Rape Crisis Center | Highland

Fair Haven provides rape survivor emergency access to a professionally trained Sexual Assault Victim Advocate who will support you through the entire medical and legal proceedings, and healing process. Healing happens differently for each individual. They will direct you to a recovery plan best for you. Fair Haven Rape Crisis Center offers survivors: support groups for teens and adults individual supportive counseling, and professional trauma-based therapists.

Self-Injury Support Group | Crown Point | Merrillville

This resource is a non-profit organization that offers free and confidential support groups for those who have been using self-injury to cope. They also offer a support groups to family and friends. They have locations in Crown Point and Merrillville with hope to expand with more groups over the Northwest Indiana area.

Beyond the Baby Blues | Valparaiso

Beyond the Baby Blues offers therapeutic support groups for women who are experiencing feelings of sadness, anxiety, isolation, or who are having difficulty adjusting to life with a new baby. They offer groups for women experiencing anxiety and/or depression during pregnancy, and for women who have experienced a loss. Their goal is to create a safe and caring space that allows participants to connect with each other and regain their sense of well being.

Talented staff members provide safety and supervision, in-the-moment parenting skills training, family support, and workshops designed to build skills that stop the generational cycles of family violence and repair parent-child relationships.

Our Greater Good | Valparaiso

Our Greater Good offers mentoring programs for children and teens. This evidence-based, after-school group mentoring program is proven to transform the lives of teenagers, support them through their adolescence and prevent at-risk behavior. Groups match up to 12 kids with 3-4 caring and consistent adults. Groups meet weekly after school beginning in the child’s 6th grade year and continuing on through middle school, the transition to high school and on to graduation. At this time, due to COVID-19, groups are meeting virtually.

The Loan Closet’s goal is to help those in need find medical equipment resources within their communities. Some of the items they are able to loan are wheelchairs, walkers, canes and commodes.

Unplanned Pregnancy | Post-Abortion Services

The Women’s Center of Northwest Indiana | Crown Point | Gary | Valparaiso | Highland

They offer the following services at no charge: Pregnancy testing, abortion consultation and information, ultrasound and limited STI testing. While most testing is free, some services may incur lab fees. Treatment for some diseases will beoffered without expense to the client, while referrals for other treatment may be necessary.

Mommy’s Haven | Lowell

Mommy’s Haven Maternity Home empower and equip moms and pregnant women seeking parenting options by providing physical, emotional and spiritual support during and after pregnancy. Mommy’s Haven provides shelter, food, clothing, and a supportive community. In addition to their services, they connect moms to appropriate agencies and resources. In doing so, we support mom & baby in both short and long-term goals! Services include: life skills training, parenting, adoption & childbirth education, self care classes, financial education, Christ-centered living environment, supportive mentor, living necessities, job development/placement, childcare program, recreational activities, and transportation.
